OpenAI is set to release its next model which is said to be far better than the current version. As per a report published by The Verge, the company is planning to name this model as ‘Orion.’ The latest model is expected to be released in the month of December.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman hasn’t yet commented on the report. It also mentions that Microsoft may host Orion on Azure as early as November, though Microsoft hasn’t confirmed this.
How is Orion Better than Chat GPT-4?
Unlike previous models, GPT-4-turbo and GPT-4, Orion will initially be available only to businesses. This will allow them early access to build new features and products. This model has the potential to be 100 times more efficient than GPT-4. The report says that OpenAI aims to gradually merge its language models to develop an even more advanced system, potentially leading to artificial general intelligence (AGI).
Orion’s launch aligns with OpenAI’s shift to a for-profit structure. This change follows a significant $6.6 billion funding round, which valued the company at $157 billion.
Latest Funding Boosts OpenAI’s Growth
The latest funding for OpenAI was led by returning investor Thrive Capital, which contributed around $1.3 billion. Microsoft reportedly added just under $1 billion, Nvidia pledged $100 million, and SoftBank contributed about $500 million.
According to the company’s website, “This new funding will help us strengthen our leadership in cutting-edge AI research, expand our computing power, and keep building tools that assist people in solving tough problems.”
