1,100 acres set aside for industrial park in Jefferson County, could create more than 4,700 jobs
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – More than 4,700 jobs could be coming to Jefferson County. The Jefferson County Economic & Industrial Development Authority announced that they have 1,100 acres set aside for an industrial park.
The JCEIDA Executive Director Othell Phillips tells WBRC that they are really excited about this project that could bring thousands of jobs to the county.
Phillips says the land, which is mostly in unincorporated Jefferson County, will soon see roads, infrastructure, and utilities added. After some of that infrastructure is complete, county leaders will start recruiting companies to come in and place roots here in Alabama.
Phillips says this site is strategically located on I-65 near the Gardendale and Morris areas, and its proximity to automobile makers could be huge for suppliers.
Still, the largest takeaway is the expected 4,700 new jobs, and what they would mean for the economy.
“We are in the jobs business and when people get jobs, they spend money. They buy houses, they go to restaurants and retail operations, so it helps the economy as a whole,” said Phillips.
Phillips says they are doing their due diligence and engineering on the site right now, but they are still years away from businesses opening their doors on the site.
