14-year-old arrested in slashing of man, 19, at shopping plaza on Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Police arrested a 14-year-old boy in connection with the slashing of a 19-year-old at a popular shopping center in Eltingville.

The assault occurred in front of the Greenridge Plaza at 3275 Richmond Ave. on Tuesday at about 6:55 p.m., according to a spokesman for the NYPD.

Four persons of interest, two boys and two girls ages 14 and 15, were initially taken in for questioning by police, the police spokesman said.

One 14-year-old boy was charged with assault, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon.

The 19-year-old man was slashed once in the face, suffering a laceration to his left cheek. EMS transported him in stable condition to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze, according to police.

The knife was not recovered at the scene.

Several police cars could be seen in the vicinity of the shopping center on Tuesday night and in the parking lot of a pharmacy located across the street.
