On Dec. 1, MadMan Productions marked World AIDS Day with its 15th annual STRUT fashion show at Joe’s on Weed St.
STRUT both serves as a showcase for young fashion designers and puts the spotlight on health organizations that do the behind-the scenes-work toward hitting the milestone of zero new HIV transmissions in the state by 2030.
With Maria Varela serving as commentator once again, this edition of STRUT featured up-and- coming designers Bjorn, Kaylie Haueisen, Courtney Lucansky, Raj Patel, Parker K. Smith, Laura Lanzerotte, Stehane Okonkwo and St. Jaymes. There were also selections on the runway from Bronzeville Boutique, Men’s Wearhouse, Misfits and Mischief, The Palace of the Princess, Full Kilt Gear and Iridium.
Speakers for the evening included Maya Green, MD; John Schneider, MD; and Renisha Campbell. A portion of the proceeds went to Wellness Homes of Chicago and Chicago Women’s AIDS Project. Music and beats were provided by DJ Lil’ John.
STRUT was produced by John Fleming of MadMan Productions and Lipstick and Lace, and was sponsored by Southside Help Center, Chicago Department of Public Health, The Village, Cook County Health, AIDS Healthcare Foundation and University of Chicago Center for HIV Elimination.
