Beat the Black Friday crowds with these family-friendly activities across Bucks County that’ll take you far from the strip malls.

From nature excursions to live shows, Christmas art activities and museum tours, we’ve got suggestions for adults and kids of all ages.

Channel the Christmas spirit to kick-off the holidays in Bucks County

  • The County Theater in Doylestown is screening a $5 Family Matinee of A Christmas Story at 10 a.m. on Friday.
  • The Holiday Light Show at Shady Brook Farm in Lower Makefield features millions of holiday lights illuminating farmland. Tune your car radio and drive through the display with the accompanying Christmas music soundtrack, or ride on an open wagon.
  • Join the characters at Sesame Place in Middletown at A Very Furry Christmas Celebration, and enjoy the amusement park rides with a light show, a parade, and a dose of Christmas ambiance.
  • Create your own Mrs. Claus figurine at Byers’ Choice in Chalfont.
  • The Festival of Trees at the Pearl S. Buck House in Perkasie features holiday trees, decorations and local artwork in Buck’s historic stone farmhouse.
  • Ride Santa’s North Pole Express Train on the New Hope Railroad. The one-hour trip on a diesel locomotive to the North Pole includes hot cocoa, carols and visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Visit rain-friendly nature centers and outdoor adventure spots

We’re in for a cold, wet Black Friday, according to the current forecast, but there are still plenty of ways to get outside.

  • TreeTrails Adventures in Trevose is hosting a “Beat the Butterball Blues” event on Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The park has treetop climbing, ziplines, suspended bridges and more.
  • The Bucks County Audubon Society at Honey Hollow features six miles of wooded trails. Visitors can also explore the grounds to discover meadows, forests, ponds, wetlands, and streams.
  • The Briar Bush Nature Center in Abington features a nature museum with live animals, interactive exhibits, a library, and a “Discovery Den” for small children. The Griscom Bird Observatory on site offers both bird viewing and kid-friendly exhibits.

Enjoy live music paired with Bucks County brews and wine

  • The microbrewery Broken Goblet in Bensalem is hosting 90s cover band Flannel on Black Friday evening along with other acts.
  • If you’re keen to avoid all commerce, head to Bishop Estate Vineyard & Winery in Perkasie after 5 p.m., when their vendor fair wraps up, to hear the two-man acoustic band The Mike & Brian Project.
  • Visit Aristaeus Craft Brewing Co. in Langhorne on Black Friday night for a taco truck alongside the nanobrewery’s usual offerings of craft beer and nitro cold brew and a live performance by Jack Kidd Music.
  • Join Free Will Brewing for their annual Ralphius Release Day, which features a series of 18 different barrel aged stouts. Those who come early to the Perkasie taproom can enjoy free, freshly griddled breakfast sandwiches. Later in the day, J Rad Pizza and Comfort Kitchen will be on-site from noon–8 p.m., and Steal Your Face will be jamming out with live music from 7–10 p.m.
  • Sip a seasonal cocktail at Ashlynn Distillery in Morrsville while enjoying live music by Mike Goldman from 7–10 p.m.

Head to the theater for a play or live performance

  • The Sellersville Theater is hosting rock guitarist Gary Ho Ho Hoey on Black Friday at 8 p.m.
  • Anastasia the Musical, based on the animated musical about the Russian princess, opened at the Bucks County Playhouse on Friday. See the matinee or the evening show on Black Friday.
  • Pink Floyd cover band The Machine is performing at the Keswick Theatre in Glenside on Friday evening.

Explore zoos and museums in or near Bucks County

  • Elmwood Park Zoo in Norristown is showing off their Wild Lights display on Friday evening, which includes lights, illuminated animals and live entertainment.
  • Spend the day in Doylestown’s historic district at the Michener Art Museum and Fonthill Castle, or head down the road to the Mercer Museum and the Moravian Pottery and Tile Works Museum. Visiting Fonthill on Black Friday night? Holiday Evening Guided Tours of the castle provide the opportunity to take in its renowned ceramic tiles and holiday trees glowing in the candlelight.
  • Glencairn Museum of religious art and history in Bryn Athyn reopens Black Friday with a “Christmas in the Castle” tour running in the afternoon.
