The 2024 Heisman Trophy betting odds were released a few months ago, and there are a few plays to consider before the season kicks off. Let’s dig into our top plays for the most prestigious award in college football.

2024 Heisman Trophy Betting Odds & Best Bets

2024 Heisman Trophy Favorite: Dillon Gabriel +750

Oregon Ducks quarterback Dillon Gabriel fits the modern profile of a Heisman Trophy winner perfectly. Power conference with a national profile? Check. Known name that’s been starting at a high level for years? Gabriel is entering his sixth season, so check. Plays in a prolific offense? That’s a big check.

It’s a little surprising that Gabriel’s 2024 Heisman Trophy betting odds are only at +750. He meets just about every requirement the voters would need.

Gabriel takes over the starting quarterback role at Oregon from Bo Nix. Nix almost won a Heisman after two years in the Ducks’ offense. As a second-year starter last year, Nix threw 45 touchdowns and only three interceptions while putting up 4,503 yards through the air. Nix also ran for 234 yards and six touchdowns.

Gabriel threw 30 touchdowns and six interceptions with Oklahoma last year. He racked up 3,660 yards passing and picked up 373 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground.

Gabriel will need to improve upon his first year in a new system and in a new conference, but it’s absolutely doable. He has the weapons around him to post similar stats, and Oregon has one of the best offensive lines in the country.

2024 Heisman Trophy Contender: Carson Beck +800

Carson Beck returns to Georgia for his second season as the starting quarterback for the Bulldogs. He threw for 24 touchdowns and only surrendered six interceptions last year. Beck managed 3,941 yards through the air and only 116 yards on the ground.

Carson Beck is a returning starter on a potential National Champion, so the odds make sense on paper. However, the Georgia offense isn’t known for prolific passing totals, and Beck is far from a dual-threat.

Michael Penix, Jr. barely ran last year and won the Heisman, but he was the engine that helped the Washington Huskies make it to the College Football Playoffs. In Georgia, the generational defensive talent gets the headlines, not the offense.

Beck should have a solid season for a team that should go deep into the playoffs, but he doesn’t put up the ‘Wow!’ totals or plays that would help win him a Heisman. Beck at 8-to-1 odds doesn’t make sense for a Heisman Trophy betting portfolio.

2024 Heisman Trophy Dark Horse: Jalen Milroe +1500

Jalen Milroe finished sixth in Heisman Trophy voting in a season that saw him get benched for a game. Milroe started slow, struggled against Texas, and watched the Crimson Tide struggle against South Florida. After no one impressed against South Florida, Milroe got another chance to lead the Crimson Tide and never looked back.

Milroe ended the year with 2,824 passing yards and 23 touchdowns through the air against only six interceptions. He also racked up 531 yards on the ground and 12 touchdowns.

The case for Milroe is that voters have familiarity with him, he plays for a high profile program, and he racks up yards through the air and on the ground. He’s also entering his fourth year with Alabama and second year as the starting quarterback. Milroe shouldn’t have to worry about seeing the bench again.

The case against Milroe is that he isn’t exceptionally accurate, and this is his first season with Kalen DeBoer as his head coach. Milroe doesn’t fit the profile that DeBoer is known for, but that’s what makes this interesting.

2024 Heisman Trophy Deep Sleeper: Kyron Drones +10000

When building a betting portfolio, it’s always a good idea to have at least one guy at crazy high odds, just in case.

Virginia Tech quarterback Kyron Drones is a dual threat who, if he stays healthy, will earn Heisman votes this year.

Drones played 13 games last year as a red-shirt sophomore. He threw for 2,085 yards with a 17:3 TD: INT ratio. He also ran for 818 yards and picked up five touchdowns on the ground.

The arrow on Virginia Tech is pointing upwards, and you can say the same for Drones. He has the ability, has proven he can rack up yards as a dual threat, and has avoided turnovers.

If Drones breaks out and picks up 10 touchdowns on the ground with another 800+ yard rushing season and is able to maintain his performance through the air, he’ll get votes.

Drones is also at 100-1 odds right now. His odds should shrink as the season goes on, and he keeps chewing up defenses. Look to throw a few bucks on Drones now and watch his 2024 Heisman Trophy betting odds improve.
