2024 Olympics Women’s Basketball Predictions & Best Bets

The 2024 Olympics Women’s Basketball action tips off this Sunday at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Lille, France, with the final stage (aka the medal games) going down on Sunday, August 11th, in the Accor Arena in Paris.

As mentioned above, it’s a 12-team field with three groups of four teams. Those groups would be as follows:

Group A

Serbia
Spain
China
Puerto Rico

Group B

Canada
Nigeria
Australia
France

Group C

Germany
United States
Japan
Belgium

Each team plays the other teams in its group once, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the quarterfinals, as well as the two best third-place teams from the groups (leaving us with eight teams). Then, it’s single elimination until the medals are given out. Based on the FIBA rankings, those medalists would be the USA, China, and Australia, in that order.

There are a record 31 WNBA players competing in the 2024 Olympics, with 12 of those showing up on the United States roster (they are the only country with a roster filled with only WNBA players).

That would explain why you have to accept -1800 odds if you want to bet on Team USA to be wearing gold medals around their necks on August 11th.

We aren’t wasting our money on odds like that, so here are some playable lines to consider.

Australia – Winner Without USA (+350)

Here is a juicy number that I like. A “winner without” bet is a bet excluding a team, in this case, the USA. So basically, we’re betting on who will win the silver medal in Paris. Half of Australia’s roster hails from the WNBA, including WNBA All-Star Ezi Magbegor and two-time WNBA champion Sami Whitcomb.

But first, Australia has to survive “The Group of Death”, Group B, which also includes contenders Canada and France (with Nigeria thrown in for good measure).

China – Group A Winner (+150)

Next, let’s sprinkle a bit on China to win Group A. According to FIBA, China is the #2 ranked team in the world, but It only has the second shortest odds to win its initial group in France. Spain, at -155, is the group favorite heading into this weekend’s action.

It’s definitely going to come down to either Spain or China, with other group members Serbia and Puerto Rico not having a realistic chance at running the group. Let’s get some plus money.

A’Ja Wilson – Most Total Points Scored In Tournament For USA (+110)

I guess it’s a testament to how stacked Team USA is that we’re getting plus money for A’Ja Wilson to be their top scorer. The Las Vegas Aces’ star led the United States contingent in scoring at the 2020 Olympics in Japan, and she’s only gotten more dominant since then.

Her 27.2 ppg average is four whole points ahead of the second-place scorer (Kahleah Cooper) in the WNBA this season. She’s surely going to light up the scoreboard at the 2024 Olympics, as she’s shown already that she can fill it up on the international stage.
