World leaders, on Wednesday, November 6, congratulated Donald Trump, who has claimed victory in the US presidential election, with French President Emmanuel Macron being the first to call him “President Donald Trump.” Macron said he was ready to work with the US vote frontrunner “with respect and ambition” like “we managed to do for four years.” In a post on X, Macron said that the relationship with Trump would “take account of your convictions, and mine,” adding: “For more peace and prosperity.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also hailed Trump’s “impressive victory” in the US elections. “I appreciate President Trump’s commitment to the ‘peace through strength’ approach in global affairs. This is exactly the principle that can practically bring just peace in Ukraine closer,” Zelensky said, in a statement on social media.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also wrote to Trump to celebrate his “historic election victory,” adding his hopes for the continued strength of the UK-US special relationship. “As the closest of allies, we stand shoulder to shoulder in defense of our shared values of freedom, democracy and enterprise. From growth and security to innovation and tech, I know that the UK-US special relationship will continue to prosper on both sides of the Atlantic for years to come,” he said.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni congratulated Trump after he claimed victory in the election, and hailed the strong ties between the two countries. “Italy and the United States are ‘sister’ nations, linked by an unshakeable alliance, common values and a historic friendship. It is a strategic bond which I am sure we will now strengthen even more,” the leader of the far-right Brothers of Italy party wrote on X.

Spain’s left-wing Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez also stated his congratulations for Trump, and pledged to work on the two countries’ partnership. “Congratulations @realDonaldTrump on your victory and your election as 47th President of the US. We will work on our strategic bilateral relations and on a strong transatlantic partnership,” Sanchez wrote, on X.
