3 men shot, 1 killed during fight at Charlotte sports bar amid ‘violent weekend’
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – A man died and two others were hurt after they were shot in the parking lot of a northeast Charlotte sports bar on Sunday night.
The shooting happened just before 11 p.m. at 1st & Goal Bar and Grill on University City Boulevard, not far from North Tryon Street.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said that when officers arrived, they found one of the men in the parking lot with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital where he later died. Police said the two other men also went to the hospital with gunshot wounds and are being treated. All three are reportedly middle-aged. Police have not released the name of the man who died.
Officers said the shooting happened amid a fight that happened behind the bar. They did not mention if any arrests have been made nor if any suspects have been identified.
The 1st & Goal shooting was the third deadly one in the Queen City on Sunday, leading Charlotte-Mecklenburg police Maj. Dave Johnson to call it a “violent day.”
“It’s tragic,” Johnson said Sunday night. “The loss of life is tragic, anytime it happens, but particularly here around the holidays. A lot of this violence is just senseless. A lot of these folks should be home in bed with their families, and they’re not…I know that our officers, our detectives, our crime scene folks, crime lab folks are all going to work hard to bring some type of resolution to all these cases.”
The first deadly shooting Sunday happened around 1 p.m. on Nobles Avenue in west Charlotte. The second happened before 11 p.m. along Old Camden Road on the eastern edge of the city.
Anyone who knows anything about any of the cases should call 704-432-TIPS and talk to a homicide detective, or information can be left anonymously with Crime Stoppers on their website or by calling 704-334-1600.
