39% of Gen Z wants to work at a small business: Handshake rpt.
Small businesses may be emerging as the preferred career choice for Gen Z, as a recent Handshake report revealed that 39% of full-time job applications were submitted to small businesses. Handshake chief education strategy officer Christine Cruzvergara joins Wealth! to discuss this trend.
Cruzvergara identifies three main factors driving Gen Z’s interest in small businesses: social impact, location, and career development opportunities. She explains that this generation seeks opportunities to make a difference, remain close to their families, while also advancing in their chosen career fields with the “ability to advance quicker.”
Looking ahead, she predicts, “I think bigger businesses will start to see a shift in some of that talent go towards small business if they don’t recognize that that talent can come from a lot of different places and there are a lot of different skill sets that can be gained, not just from [a] degree but from extracurriculars.”
