4 Christmas-themed productions to see in Baton Rouge during the holiday season
The holiday season is here, which means a variety of Christmas-themed stories will be playing out on local stages.
The Nutcracker, Scrooge, Santa Claus — they’ll all be stirring Christmas cheer in December.
Here are a few suggestions for some holiday shows to see:
‘A Tale From the Bayou’
The Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre’s annual production of “The Nutcracker — A Tale From The Bayou” is a holiday favorite for children and adults alike.
This Louisiana-themed version of the classic story is performed to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s original “Nutcracker” score and features backdrops of such familiar locations as Louisiana’s Old State Capitol and Oak Alley.
Performances are at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 14 and 15, in the Raising Cane’s River Center Performing Arts Theatre, 396 St. Louis St. Tickets are $35-$90 by visiting ticketmaster.com.
‘Holiday Nutcracker’
Clara and The Nutcracker also will be taking the stage in the Cangelosi Dance Project’s annual production of “Holiday Nutcracker” at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, in the Dunham Theatre, 11111 Emerson Drive.

‘A Christmas Carol’
What’s Christmas without Ebenezer Scrooge’s transformation from miserable and miserly to joyful? Well, Theatre Baton Rouge is going to make sure Scrooge’s story is told through its annual production of “A Christmas Carol,” opening Friday, Dec. 6, on its Main Stage, 7155 Florida Blvd.

‘Becoming Santa Claus’
Santa Claus will come to town when Opera Louisiane stages Mark Amado’s fun opera, “Becoming Santa Claus,” where a 13-year-old Prince Claus tries to outdo the Three Kings with unexpected results.
The show will be performed at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, in the Manship Theatre in the Shaw Center for the Arts, 100 Lafayette St.
