5-year-old girl hit by SUV at Apex shopping center near Target

A 5-year-old girl was hit by an SUV on Monday in the Beaver Creek Commons parking lot near Target in Apex.

The incident occurred shortly before 5:54 p.m., police said.

Emergency responders arrived to find the child on the ground, with some of her clothing still near the back wheel of the vehicle.

Broadcastify radio traffic detailed the emergency crews’ response.

“We have one patient on the ground. All units, she is not underneath the vehicle.”

Apex police and fire departments responded to the scene, with the traffic unit conducting a nearly two-hour investigation, which included ground measurements and aerial footage captured by a drone.

Authorities took the girl to the hospital, but her injuries are unknown.

The store declined to comment on whether their security cameras captured the incident. Officers are continuing their investigation.
