6 St. Louis area Red Cross volunteers travel to Texas to help with Beryl relief

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – Six St. Louis area American Red Cross volunteers, along with seven other volunteers from across Missouri, have headed to Texas to assist in disaster relief following Hurricane Beryl.

As of Thursday, more than 1.2 million people in Texas are without power following the storm, according to poweroutage.us.

“Our teams have been there to help immediately after Hurricane Beryl made landfall,” said Beth Elders, executive director for the Greater St Louis chapter of the American Red Cross. “We are grateful to the volunteers who are willing to leave home and help those affected by disasters in communities around the country. If anyone would like to join our teams for future disaster response efforts, we ask them to sign up today. The majority of our workforce – 90% – is made up of volunteers and we simply could not do what we do without them.”

The Red Cross is taking in donations to assist in disaster relief. To donate, visit the American Red Cross’ website, call 1-800-733-2767 or text the word REDCROSS 90999 to make a $10 donation.
