Children’s Day, an annual holiday in Japan on May 5, is intended to respect children’s personalities and to celebrate their happiness. To honor the event, the Japan-America Society of Southern Colorado will host its Children’s Day Festival with traditional and modern Japanese crafts from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday. Entertainment, including a martial arts demonstration, dance performance and fashion show, is from noon-12:30 p.m. Kids are encouraged to dress in kimono, yukata or martial arts uniforms and participate in the fashion show. Celebrate Mexican culture with entertainment, food, contests and more at Denver’s Cinco de Mayo Festival in Civic Center Park, 101 14th Ave. The festival runs from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, with a parade at 11 a.m. Saturday, followed by dancing and music by Mexican regional bands playing mariachi, banda and cumbia across three stages. Opera Colorado will polish off its season with Saint-Saëns’s “Samson and Delilah,” an operatic retelling of the biblical tale.
