NORTH STONINGTON — Fair season kicks off tonight with the opening of the 60th North Stonington Agricultural Fair, which will have a for a four-day run on the North Stonington Fairgrounds and will feature — for the first time — entertainment from Victoria Circus.
Victoria Circus, which offers “top-quality family entertainment ranging from the most spectacular thrill acts such as the Globe of Death and High Wire Act all the way to the aerial and ground acts,” will present two shows a day on each day of the fair.
Along with the circus shows, carnival rides and corn dogs, fairgoers can also enjoy tractor pulls, baking contests, pickle competitions and country music.
Sponsored by North Stonington Community Grange #138 and the North Stonington Volunteer Fire Department, the fair, which features “the finest in entertainment, food, and wholesome fun for the entire family,” will also include racing pigs and roving wrestlers, jugglers and a baled-hay toss.
Young local women will once again compete in the Fair Queen Pageant, which will take place along with the Princess and Junior Princess pageants, as will displays of home arts and crafts, the cattle, rabbit, goat, poultry and sheep shows, and the Connecticut Valley Driving Club Horse Show.
The fair, which attracts thousands of people from across the region each year, will include the traditional ham and bean supper on Saturday from 5-7 p.m. in the Grange Hall and a midway full of rides from Rockwell Amusements, which will be open all four days of the show.
