7 Webb School student-athletes to continue sports careers at college level
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)—The school year is starting to wind down, and high school seniors are making their final decisions on where to continue their education. Seven of those seniors were recognized Wednesday morning at a signing celebration at Webb High School.
It was an especially good day for Don Mahoney, who took over the football program last year and sent two of his players to college. Defensive edge Xavier Hickman will play for the Tennessee Tech Eagles, while Wide Receiver Grant Morton is headed to The Citadel.
Women’s soccer player Daksha Sutharshan and baseball player Connor Knight found their perfect fits at UT-Martin and Walters State, respectively.
For others, it is just making it to signing day surrounded by friends, family, and coaches, which is the reward. Ari Klasky and Drake Ingram said that putting pen to paper made their dreams come true. Klasky of the track and field team signed with Emory, while Ingram will head to Centre College.
Gracie Brogan is especially grateful to be recognized Wednesday alongside her fellow athletes as a member of the cheerleading team. She will be cheering on the Bruins at Belmont next year.
