$700 PlayStation 5 Pro unveiled by Sony Interactive Entertainment
LOS ANGELES (TND) — Sony Interactive Entertainment revealed the PlayStation 5 Pro on Tuesday — and it comes with a $700 price tag in the U.S. — making it one of the most expensive video game consoles ever.
In a blog, PlayStation described its latest gaming console as “the most visually impressive way to play games” and said there are several new features, including the following:
- Larger GPU
- Advanced ray tracing
- AI-Driven upscaling
- PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution
During a technical presentation Tuesday, Mark Cerny, who is the lead architect of the PS5, said about three-quarters of PlayStation users play games in “performance mode.” He said they tend to emphasize frame rate and interactivity, running at 60 frames per second.
The upgraded version of the PlayStation 5, he said, has sharper image clarity, a higher frame rate gameplay, and much better ray-tracing.
Fans, meanwhile, seemed to be surprised by the price. Many said $700 is too much, especially because it doesn’t come with a disk drive.
“This makes it immediately a no go,” one person wrote in reply to Playstation’s post on X.
Another person made a similar remark on a link to the presentation.
“$700 with no vertical stand and disc drive is insane,” the person wrote.
The company said pre-orders for the console will be available directly from PlayStation at direct.playstation.com, as well as at participating retailers.
