8-Year-Old Ohio Girl Drives Herself to Target to Go Shopping

An 8-year-old girl drove herself 24 minutes from her home to a Target in Bainbridge, Ohio, according to a police report.

The incident unfolded around 9 a.m. when Bedford Police were dispatched to a home on Greencroft Road. The call was regarding a missing child and a missing vehicle. Officers quickly issued a “Be on the Lookout” alert, providing a description of both the young girl and the family SUV.

Neighbors provided family members and officers with Ring doorbell footage showing the girl getting into the car and driving off around the same time the family reported last seeing her.

Later, Bedford Heights Police received a call about a small child driving east on Rockside Road in a vehicle matching the description of the missing SUV. Although officers were initially unable to locate the girl or the car, Flock cameras later spotted the SUV traveling east on Pettibone Road.

Bainbridge Police informed Bedford Police that they had found the SUV at a Target in Bainbridge. Officers located the girl inside the store, and she was safely picked up by her family.

Authorities informed Nexstar’s WJW that the girl was too young to be charged criminally and were relieved that there were no injuries.
