When is ‘Those About to Die’ coming out? Trailer, cast and release date

Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins stars in a new sword-and-sandal series, Those About to Die, which is due out next month.

What is Those About to Die about?

Based on Daniel P. Mannix’s 1958 non-fiction book of the same name, the 10-part dramatisation focuses on the world of gladiators in Ancient Rome.

The show’s official synopsis reads: “Those About to Die is an epic drama set in the corrupt world of the spectacle-driven gladiatorial competition, exploring a side of ancient Rome never before told – the dirty business of entertaining the masses, giving the mob what they want most…blood and sport. The series introduces an ensemble of characters from all corners of the Roman Empire who collide at the explosive intersection of sports, politics, and dynasties.”

Written by Robert Rodat, the series features Hopkins as Emperor Vespasian, and also stars Iwan Rheon, Sara Martins, Tom Hughes, Jojo Macari, Moe Hashim, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Rupert Penry-Jones, Gabriella Pession, Dimitri Leonidas, Emilio Sakraya, David Wurawa, Pepe Barroso, Gonçalo Almeida, Eneko Sagardoy, Romana Maggiora Vergano, Lara Wolf, Angeliqa Devi, Kyshan Wilson and Alicia Edogamhe.

When does Those About to Die premiere in the US?

In the United States, Those About to Die is scheduled to arrive on the streaming service Peacock on Thursday 18 July 2024, with all 10 episodes made available at once. The series is also due to be released internationally, on the online platform Amazon Prime Video.
