Community beats the heat at the Huntsville Ice Sports Center
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – Temperatures over the weekend hit nearly 100 degrees in the Tennessee Valley. Many people around the area took to the ice rink to cool off.
While at the Huntsville Ice Sports Center on Saturday, WAFF spoke to a few people who hit up the rink for some ice skating and to break free from the humid conditions.
Heidi Parker, the skating school manager at the Huntsville Ice Sports Center said she encourages people to come out to the rink, especially in the triple digits.
“The Huntsville Ice Sports Center is absolutely the best place to come when it’s triple digits outside and hotter — it’s the perfect place to cool off,” Parker said.
The ice center offers public skate sessions every day including the weekends along with ice skating and hockey classes.
Parker said for those interested in wanting to learn how to skate or watch the action from the sidelines, this is the spot to be.
“Everybody can come and learn how to skate better and spend more time in the facility,” Parker said. “It is family-friendly, so those that don’t skate can come up and watch the skaters in a cool environment.”
Massalena Crouch, one of the skating students, said being on the ice is one of her favorite things.
“The reason I do it is because you can perform really cool tricks, like figure skating and you can do hockey, skating, you can do games,” Crouch said.
An even better solution when the temperatures hit triple digits, the ice center is offering half-priced admission.
