Lubbock business owners struggle financially with son’s medical needs

LUBBOCK, Texas —  A children’s boutique called Green Dazzle Boutique struggled to stay in business because their youngest son had severe eczema. Javier and Arlene Orozco were the owners of the children’s store and talked about the store’s lifespan.

“We don’t know how long we’ll be able to hang on but we know for certain that we will hang on for as long as we can,” Arlene Orozco said.

The family business was established in 2012 and specializes in natural, organic products for children.

The Orozcos had three kids, Zachary (age 7),  Zemi (age 4) and Zane who is 10 months old and had severe eczema. The parents described what a typical day looks like for Zane.

“Once he wakes up from his nap we go get him and there’s just bloody sheets, bloody blankets like all the things from his skin, just like weeping where he would just like rub and rub,” Arlene Orozco said.

The family had to keep up with the store’s financial needs along with Zane’s medical needs. All of this added to the family not having health insurance took its toll.

“And then it came down to what’s the price for a self-pay and it was nearly ten thousand dollars like okay. Well, that’s kind of off the table,” Arlene Orozco said.

The store held a special place in the Orozco family’s heart.

“I feel like our babies grew up here, it’s what they know. It means everything.”

The family has a GoFundMe page where people can donate to support the family’s medical costs for baby Zane. Click here to look at their GoFundMe page.
