QUEEN’S CLUB: Milos Raonic sent down a record 47 aces and saved two match points while beating Cameron Norrie in the first round at Queen’s Club.
Raonic’s 47 was an ATP record for a three-set match since the statistic was kept from 1991. The previous record was 45 aces in 2015 by Ivo Karlovic against Tomas Berdych in Halle. Raonic’s previous best was 38 in 2011.
“My serve has always been the most important shot to me,” Raonic said. “This small record, it’s something special, something meaningful. A fun stat to be proud of.”
Former runner-up Norrie was beaten 6-7 (6), 6-3, 7-6 (9) after holding match points in the last tiebreak.

NHL: The Columbus Blue Jackets fired Coach Pascal Vincent after one season in which they were one of the NHL’s worst teams.
New General Manager Don Waddell announced the firing and said the search for a new coach would begin immediately. The Blue Jackets finished last in the Metropolitan Division with a record of 27-43-12 and 66 points in 2023-24.
Vincent joined the team before last season as an associate head coach but was elevated after new coach Mike Babcock resigned after his requests to see personal photos on his players’ phones was deemed invasive.

NBA: Atlanta Hawks General Manager Landry Fields says he likes his options for the potential top picks in the NBA draft on June 26 – and he insists he’s not planning on trading the No. 1 pick, even though his phone lines remain open.
The Hawks were the surprise winner of the NBA draft lottery on May 12. Atlanta won the No. 1 draft pick despite just 3% odds after finishing 10th in the Eastern Conference at 36-46. Fields says his initial enthusiasm about landing the top pick has not been diminished as he and his staff have examined options such as two French stars, Alexandre Sarr and Zaccharie Risacher, Kentucky guard Reed Sheppard and UConn center Donovan Clingan.
SOCCER
MBAPPE INJURED: Kylian Mbappé suffered a facial injury and was replaced as France beat Austria 1-0 in its opening game of the European Championship.
The striker, involved in the first-half goal, clashed heads with Austria’s Kevin Danso late in the Group D game at Dusseldorf Arena. He was in obvious pain as he lay curled on the grass, prompting Austria goalkeeper Patrick Pentz to signal for medical attention.
Mbappé received treatment and his shirt was covered with blood from what appeared to be a blow to his nose. He tried to play on but quickly fell to the ground, holding his face and prompting whistles and jeers from Austria’s fans, who seemed to believe he was time-wasting as France held on for the win.
COLLEGE
FOOTBALL: Les Miles, who coached the LSU Tigers to a 2007 national championship, is suing the university over its decision to vacate 37 of his teams’ victories between 2012 and 2015.
The lawsuit filed Monday in federal court in Baton Rouge alleges that LSU never gave Miles a chance to be heard before altering the coach’s career record significantly enough to disqualify him from consideration for the College Football Hall of Fame.
The decision in June 2023 to vacate the victories stemmed from an NCAA ruling that former Tigers offensive lineman Vadal Alexander had received financial benefits that violated NCAA rules at the time he played.
The lawsuit also names the NCAA and Atlanta-based College Football Hall of Fame as defendants, and it demands that they reinstate the vacated victories to Miles’ official career coaching record.
FOOTBALL
NFL: Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins signed his one-year franchise tender for the 2024 season, but, his long-term future with the team remains in doubt.
The fifth-year wideout received the franchise tag in February and didn’t participate in recent organized team workouts, including last week’s three-day minicamp. Higgins will make $21.8 million and the Bengals will have at least one more season with Ja’Marr Chase and Higgins as one the NFL’s top wideout duos, with a healthy Joe Burrow throwing to them.
