Tennessee’s Wednesday College World Series game time adjusted

OMAHA, Neb. — Tennessee’s bid for its first College World Series championship series appearance in program history will have to wait at least an hour.

A forecast of nasty-looking weather in Omaha on Tuesday night postponed the elimination game between Kentucky and Florida to 11 a.m. Eastern on Wednesday, which pushed back the scheduled 2 p.m. Eastern game between Tennessee and either Florida State or North Carolina to approximately 3 p.m. Eastern.

The schedule bracket two final between Texas A&M and the Florida-Kentucky winner would then be played Wednesday night, after the conclusion of the bracket one final between Tennessee and either Florida State or North Carolina.

Florida State or North Carolina would need to beat Tennessee on Wednesday and then again on Thursday to reach the best-of-three CWS championship series, while a win in either game would send the Vols directly to the championship series to face A&M, Kentucky or Florida.

The championship series is still scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. Eastern on Saturday, with ESPN handling the broadcast. Game Two scheduled to start a 2:30 p.m. Eastern on ABC, while the if-necessary Game Three is scheduled for 7 p.m. Eastern on Monday on ESPN.

A 2-0 start to the College World Series has put Tony Vitello and his top-ranked Vols in prime position to reach the championship series for the first time in program history. The Vols rallied from a five-run deficit in the fifth, a four-run deficit in the eighth and three-run deficit in the ninth, collecting four-consecutive two-out base hits to tie and then beat Florida State in a 12-11 thriller on Friday night. Tennessee had a much more comfortable experience against North Carolina on Sunday night, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning and never looking back in a 6-1 win.

Tennessee is expected to start senior left-hander Zander Sechrist against either Florida State or North Carolina, and as of Tuesday afternoon most signs pointed toward it being FSU. The Seminoles had a 7-1 lead over the Heels in the fifth inning at the time this story was published.
