Matters of Graves Importance: Beat the heat with some of this week’s entertainment
I sure could use some “underwear sticking to me” heat. Did anyone say this? Anyone? They need to be flogged. I know my buddy Jamie Lambert does a snow dance every winter but let me find out if he is responsible for this nonsense and he will have some explaining to do. If it is almost 100 in June, what is in store for us in July? Yesterday I doubled up my deodorant subscription on Amazon as a precaution. Is it a hot flash or is it June in Ohio? For your safety, don’t get too close to me to find out. You can find out more about the events coming up in our area by continuing to read below.
Thursday
Hazel’s Roadshow featuring DJ Hazel brings R&B, old school, funk, hip hop, jazz, and blues to the community from 4 to 8 p.m. (weather permitting) in Yoctangee Park in honor of Juneteenth. This entertainment is free and open to the public every week, thanks to Hazel. She would like you to watch her Facebook for an announcement as there may be an adjustment to the start time due to high temperatures. I will be hosting trivia with a Bingo chaser at Stockroom601 in Jackson at 7 p.m. and last week it got rowdy. I get heckled more during trivia than I do on a comedy stage. Take a drive and join us for the madness.
Friday
A Tribute to Garth Brooks featuring Fresh Horses is happening at the Majestic Theatre Chillicothe at 7:30 p.m. If you love Garth, you will love Fresh Horses. Les Smith perfectly captures the spirit of the one and only Garth Brooks. This makes for a fantastic evening, full of all of the hits you love and remember. For tickets, visit majesticchillicothe.net. Across town, our friends JB3 take the stage from 8 to 11 p.m. at Jerry’s West Sports Bar.
Saturday
Join me at The Pour House at Machinery Hall for laughs with headliner Jay Armstrong, featuring Misty Vaccariello, and hosted by me. From Recovery Comedy…”Hailing from Covington, Kentucky Jay Armstrong is one of America’s funniest scumbags. Jay was a child who was always told he had a lot of “potential” and spent most of his early years in school in gifted programs for genius kids. At 16, he discovered heroin and spent the next nine years struggling with addiction, homelessness, and even served a little time in prison on drug charges. In 2005, he went to rehab and since has been the quintessential story of redemption and recovery. Jay travels the country performing at comedy clubs, recovery events, and even a prison here and there. Jay is now a father in addition to being a comedian.”Visit https://pour-house-at-machinery-hall-inc.square.site/ for your tickets to the ONLY rooftop comedy show in Chillicothe. As of press time, very few seats remain. Do not delay in getting yours. Catch JB3 for their second local appearance of the weekend at Naz Winery at 7 p.m. Gutterball Lounge in Shawnee Lanes hosts Good N Stout from 8 to 11 p.m. Cory Summar takes the stage at Steiner’s Speakeasy at 8 p.m.
