Honeybees help pioneer women’s sports league
MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) – The Northwoods Softball League is the first for-profit women’s summer collegiate softball league, and Minot is one of four cities to host a team in the inaugural season.
The season began this weekend and NDSCS’s Caitlyn Dannenfelzer hit a lead-off single to register the first hit in team history. Earlier in the year, Honeybees general manager Monica Hocking and head coach Craig Montvidas shared their thoughts on what the league means for the game, and women’s sports as a whole.
“It is just cool to be involved in something so monumental to women’s sports. I think it’s going to grow tremendously in the next couple of years,” said Hocking.
“It’s a great opportunity for women’s sports. Women’s sports continue to grow, it’s great. I’m glad to be part of that to help move the game forward,” said Montvidas.
The Honeybees’ next game is Wednesday in La Crosse against the Steam. The home opener is Tuesday, June 25, at Corbett Field at 6:35 p.m.
