Rachel Forsyth honored with Courage Award at Detroit High School Sports Awards

Tuesday night at the 2024 Detroit Area High School Sports Awards, presented by the Detroit Area Honda Dealers, Ann Arbor Pioneer distance runner Rachel Forsyth was recognized as the 2024 Courage Award winner, presented by the U.S. Army.

The Army also was the partnering sponsor of the show.

The Courage Award is designed to recognize greatness, strength, and bravery that goes beyond the field, courts, or tracks.

Forsyth had a dominant senior cross country season. She won the Division 1 race, shattered the record time in the process, and it led her to winning the Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year earlier in the night.

But if history was a little different, that might not have happened.

Things could have gone another direction for her over the last couple of years as she battled through an eating disorder.

But with help of friends, family, doctors, and most important, herself, Forsyth battled back to be able to accomplishing something she didn’t know was possible.
