Westport looks to rival other entertainment districts with its own interconnected nightclub premier

WESTPORT, Mo. (KCTV) – Something new is coming to the entertainment district: a multi-experience bar. One of the seven bars is expected to open next month.

This is the first of its kind in the area, and the owners hope it’ll have a positive impact on customers and the community.

Andrew Marten, the lead contractor with Westport Bars KC Group, said this is about to change the nightlife scene.

“This is pretty unmatched for anything in Westport, as well as the dance floor, the DJ setup, and the location and layout of everything,” Marten said.

On July 19, they’ll open the doors for the Landing off Mill Street, which is connected to a giant patio out back that can fit 500 people.

“I think this lounge is probably the nicest offering, facility wise of anything we have in Westport,” Marten said. “I think eventually, this entertainment district is going to compete with Power and Light, and we are going to offer everything we can.”

Then in August, Jugalow will open downstairs, which is a Tiki bar. Finally, in the following months into next year they’ll open a speakeasy, another massive dance spot and a food truck.

Anna Mitchell and Karley Davis said they come to Westport often and believe this will be a great addition to the area.

“I’m shocked,” said Mitchell. “We both are; we’ve never heard of anything like this.”

Mitchell worries about security as her friend was the man who died in last month’s shooting near the intersection of Westport Road and Broadway Boulevard.

“We just have to be careful, never careful about our surroundings,” Mitchell said. “I would like to see metal detectors at all entry points for sure to help die down on all the guns.”

KCTV5 asked what security measures owners plan to take, and they said they’re not commenting on that at this time.

In the meantime, people are eager for a new spot to enjoy.

“The more the merrier,” said Griffin Riggs. “Bring it on; I think it would be fun.”
