Amazon fulfillment center general manager says more jobs will be posted next week
SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – Amazon’s Shreveport fulfillment center hosted a meet-and-greet with its leadership team Friday morning (June 21).
The reception gave community partners the opportunity to meet with the fulfillment center’s leadership team, including general manager Abhishek Gowrishankar, who will lead the local team. The new facility will feature state-of-the-art robotics with the ability to process hundreds of thousands of orders each day.
The facility is expected to open in the coming months; however, no specific date was given at Friday’s event.
Gowrishankar said more than 1,000 people will be working alongside Amazon robotics. They will be able to serve around 3 million customer shipments every week, he added.
Hourly associates at the fulfillment center can expect to make $17.50 per hour and have access to multiple benefits.
The Shreveport fulfillment center’s general manager said people can expect to see more jobs listed online starting the week of June 24.
“As we get our buildings launched, which is expected in early August, we are hiring for more candidates,” Gowrishankar said. “Job postings will start showing up in our website starting next week. There will be several recruiting events.”
“Not only jobs, but it’s well-paying jobs,” Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux said. “Most importantly, if you heard Abhi talk about the benefits that Amazon offers, the benefits are probably worth as much as the hourly wage. In terms of health insurance, dental coverage, vision coverage, educational opportunities, these are things that are really on the cutting edge of employee benefits. And so we are really proud that Amazon is here to offer those kinds of benefits to citizens of Shreveport.
“We have a general manager, which means we have people coming along, and we’re so excited that this … we expect this to be open sometime in the late summer, early fall,” the mayor continued. “And so it’s a big boost to our economy, a big boost to how we feel about ourselves, and it’s just a great moment for Shreveport.”
District A Councilwoman Tabatha Taylor also attended Friday morning’s event.
“The biggest thing about Amazon coming here is quality of life,” she said. “You’re giving people a competitive wage, a livable wage, in order for them to be able to enjoy their quality of life with their families. That level of excitement is what’s exciting for me.”
“Shreveport is definitely ready and excited,” Gowrishankar said. “The partnership, the support, the excitement we’ve been getting is just incredible and humbling. I’m just so … my sincere gratitude.”
