Downtown business shares flood concerns

DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) – The Mississippi River continues to climb around the QCA and the rising waters are forcing some changes to local businesses.

Blue Spruce General Store opened its doors almost two years ago in downtown Davenport.

The store sells sandwiches, grocery items and they also have a deli and bakery.

Brandon Carleton is a baker at Blue Spruce and says that they’ve seen a real decline in foot traffic.

“Parking is already at a premium in downtown Davenport,” Carleton said. “So having River Drive closed, is really limited, and it kind of discourages people from stopping when they can’t find a parking spot. We had customers today telling us that you know, they are driving around for 10,15 minutes looking for parking.”

Blue Spruce shared to their social media saying that the businesses has been struggling since the Arsenal Bridge closed and now with River Drive. They say since sharing the post people have spread the word and Blue Spruce was filled.

Blue Spruce says even when the flood hits, their doors will still be open with their regular hours.
