Some work zones in Illinois to reopen for Independence Day travel

ILLINOIS (WIFR) – To help with Independence Day traffic, the Illinois Department of Transportation will reopen some lanes that have been closed for construction.

Non-emergency road closures will be suspended from 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, to 11:59 p.m. Sunday, July 7.

The following lane closures will stay closed throughout the holiday weekend. Motorists can expect delays and should prepare for extra time to go through these areas. IDOT says drivers should follow the rules of the road and pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in work zones.

Winnebago County:

  • Illinois 2 near Rockton will continue with lane reductions
  • Lane reductions will continue on I-39 and U.S. 20 ramp and at the U.S. 20 Harrison Avenue at I-39 in Cherry Valley
    • I-39 South ramp to Harrison Avenue will remain closed.
  • Illinois 70, South of Durand, will continue to have lane reductions and traffic be controlled by temporary signals

DeKalb County:

  • Illinois 23, South of Waterman, will continue with lane reductions

Jo Daviess County:

  • U.S. 20 East in Galena will be closed, and a detour is posted
  • Illinois 84 in Hanover will continue with lane reductions and traffic being controlled by temporary signals

McHenry County:

  • The Souwanas Trail between Vista Drive and Riverwood Drive in Algonquin will be closed, and a detour is posted
  • Riverside Drive between Johnsburg Road and Running Brook Farm Boulevard in Johnsburg will be closed, and the detour is posted
  • Millstream Road between River Road and Illinois 176 in Seneca Township will be closed, and a detour is posted
  • Illinois 23 (State Street) at Illinois 176 (Telegraph Road) in Marengo will be closed, and a detour is posted
