Maine State Police urges safe travels this summer and Fourth of July

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – The Fourth of July is just a few days away.

Some may have already seen the increase in tourism traffic and even some delays.

And as the summer holiday approaches, it will likely continue.

As folks travel and gather to celebrate, Maine State Police has advice on staying safe while having fun.

“The Fourth falls on a Thursday this year. So a lot of folks are given Friday off as well. They’re making it a four-day weekend, so they’re making big travel plans. It puts a lot more people on the road. A couple of things to remember here number one, you aren’t going to see increased traffic. Number two, give yourself time. Enjoy the drive. Don’t be in a hurry to get there. Be patient, expect traffic delays, expect that you might get tied up in something. Number three, do it safely. Drive sober and if you are going to celebrate designated driver, make sure you get home safely,” said Roderick Charette, commander of Maine State Police Troop I.

Maine State Police says they have already seen an increase in traffic.
