No one hurt after car driven into Rochester Hills business
A gaping hole greeted potential shoppers at a Rochester Hills pet supply store Wednesday afternoon after a morning accident.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, emergency responders were summoned to Walton Boulevard near Livernois Road at 9:11 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, with a report that a car was driven into the building.
The car, a 2022 Ford Escape, had been accidentally driven into the Pet Supplies Plus across from the Ascension Providence Rochester Hospital.
The driver was an 81-year-old Rochester man.
“He mistakenly put his foot on the accelerator instead of the brake,” the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office reported in a release. “His vehicle drove over the sidewalk, through the front doors of the business and continued through the business. The vehicle struck the check out counter as well as some store shelves before coming to rest.
“No one was injured in the crash.”
Both deputies and Rochester Hills Fire Department personnel responded, as did building inspectors from the city. The car was removed by Byers Towing, and the driver was given a ride home.
