Marion Co. woman goes viral for cake business

Trinity Legette, 23, said she’s been helping her mother bake cakes since she was a little girl.

Legette said one day when she was a teen, her mother was under the weather and that’s when she put on her baker’s hat and made the cake.

Legette said baking cakes is truly a gift for her.

I’ve tried so many things. I went to cosmetology school. I worked at Home Depot. I was a substitute. I did so many things. And I’ve always come back to backing. That’s my calling,” said Legette.

She typically shares videos of her cakes on TikTok.

Legette said on Valentine’s Day, she posted a video of her ‘burning heart’ cake.

The cake is quite unique. You light the candle and it shows a flame peeling back a top layer to reveal another layer that reads, “Be My Valentine.”

Legette said that the video has more than over seven million views to this date.

I posted it a few days before Valentine’s Day. I posted it because my videos on TikTok, I may have gotten like 1,000 views. So, I posted it and I didn’t think nothing of it. And I kept getting notifications. And I went and looked, and within an hour, it was at 5,000 views. And I was like, mama, what’s going on? By 12 o’clock that next morning, I looked and it was at a million views. And I’m like there’s no way, a million views. And it just kept going up and up and up,” said Legette.

She said since then, her cake business has gone beyond her wildest dreams.

On a good week, roughly 20. I do also work. So, I’ll bake around my work schedule. Holidays, maybe like 55 to 60 cakes. A slow week maybe 8 to 10,” said Legette.

Legette works in the medical field and is a mom to a one-year-old boy.

She said he’s quite the adventurous child but loves to taste test her cakes.

Legette’s business is called Sugar and Spice by Trinity.

She believes her love for baking a good cake will continue to take her to higher heights.
