Card skimmers found in Carson City; others could be installed, CCSO warns

CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) -The Carson City Sheriff’s Office found card skimmers at one Carson City business and warns there’s a good chance skimmers have been installed at other businesses and not found.

Skimmers take account numbers and pin numbers when people insert their cards.

They found skimmers at an east Carson City business.

CCSO asks businesses to check their point-of-sale keypads for skimmers. If they find one, they are asked to call non-emergency dispatch (775-887-2677 in Carson City) and to not tamper with the device.

Shoppers and business patrons are asked to be vigilant of their credit/debit cards and bank accounts. Contact your financial institution for any suspicious transactions. If you have been the victim of a skimmer, report it to law enforcement during business hours and follow your financial institution’s guidance on card cancellation, replacement and reporting.

Anyone with information on the skimmers is asked to call the sheriff’s office or Secret Witness at 775-322-4900.
