At about 7:30 p.m., firefighters responded to a fire on Northeast 47th Avenue near the Whitaker Ponds Natural Area.

They said the fire started in a large stack of pallets and then the flames threatened to spread to nearby buildings.

SEE ALSO:

Fireworks purchased outside the city started 33 fires last year in Portland on the Fourth of July, with most of them coming from Washington state.

Crews also said they determined there was a “large fuel storage tank” and the fire brought down several live powerlines. The power company sent a crew to help deal with the live wires.

Crews said the business also doubled as a home, but no one was inside and no injuries have been reported. Crews were able to keep the fire from spreading beyond the pallet recycling business building.
