Hattiesburg man arrested in connection with bomb threat at Smith Co. business

SMITH CO., Miss. (WLBT) – A man is in custody in connection with a bomb threat at a Smith County business.

A press release says the bomb threat was reported at Georgia Pacific Plywood, just outside of Taylorsville.

According to the release, the employees were evacuated, and an investigation ensued.

Smith County investigators identified the suspect as 27-year-old Tobias Smith of Hattiesburg.

He is charged with one count of terrorist threats and is currently in custody at the Smith County Jail. A bond hearing is pending.

Before the employees returned to work, bomb dogs with the Mississippi Highway Patrol searched the site for explosive chemicals.

Sheriff Joel Houston expressed his gratitude to Mississippi Homeland Security and the MHP K9 handlers with the bomb dogs for their prompt assistance with the threat.
