The NXT Championship Changes Hands In Stunning Fashion
Highlights
- Ethan Page wins NXT Championship in a surprising turn of events.
- Trick Williams’ reign ends in a fatal four-way match.
- Page’s rapid rise to the top in NXT, transitioning from AEW to WWE.
In a remarkable turn of events, the finish to NXT Heatwaves’ main event was a stroke of creative genius, and false finishes led to a shocking title change. Ethan Page was crowned the new NXT Champion on Sunday night and following his victory, Page took to social media to share his excitement, stating, “Told you.” About an hour later, he posted a photo of himself celebrating his triumph, captioned, “Top of the World. Where I belong.”
Meanwhile, the former champion, Trick Williams was less-than-pleased with how he lost his championship.
Trick Williams Run Comes To An End
Williams had been on an impressive run since winning the title. Most believed he’d walk away from the show still champion but the odds were stacked against him. Originally set to be a singles match between Williams and Je’Von Evans, the bout evolved into a fatal four-way with the addition of Ethan Page and Shawn Spears.

Why Trick Williams Will Be WWE’s Next Great Mega-Star
Trick Williams has become NXT’s top babyface, but as an appearance with Carmelo Hayes on SmackDown showed, he will be a big main roster star too.
During the finish, Williams delivered his signature Trick Shot on Evans, followed by another on Page. However, Page fell on top of Evans just as Shawn Spears was pulling Williams out of the ring, preventing him from breaking up the pinfall. Evans was unable to kick out and the unexpected series of events secured Page his first championship in NXT.
As for what comes next in Williams’ career, that remains unclear. He’ll either be first in line to get another shot, or WWE may be thinking about calling him up to the main roster.
A Quick Rise To The Top Of NXT For Page
Page’s ascent to the top of NXT has been nothing short of meteoric. Over the span of just a few weeks, Page transitioned from being an AEW-contracted wrestler to making the jump to WWE, to becoming the NXT Champion. This rapid rise through the ranks was certainly unexpected but it’s been years in the making for the man known as “All Ego”. Leaving AEW to join WWE was obviously the right decision for his career.
He said recently:
“I went from somewhere that was so chaotic and unorganized to a place that, I mean I’m still learning because I’m still so new here, but this is a machine and it’s incredible. It feels good to not feel like I have to do everything myself. To have people that want to see me succeed is kind of mind-blowing.”
With Ethan Page now holding the NXT Championship, the landscape of NXT has changed. Welcome to the All Ego era.
