Woodlands Axe brings axe throwing entertainment to Tamina Road

Magnolia resident Jeffrey Elkin opened Woodlands Axe alongside his brother Jon Elkin in late 2022 to provide the area with more entertainment options.

Jeffrey Elkin said Woodlands Axe offers a unique entertainment venue with computer-projected targets.

Staying local

Jeffrey Elkin said he realized the need for more entertainment options as he and his wife drove an hour away from Magnolia searching for an axe throwing entertainment center.

“So we figured, you know, why not open up one in our own area? There’s no entertainment out here whatsoever,” Jeffrey Elkin said.

While brainstorming what his own entertainment center would look like, Jeffery Elkin decided to offer a different method of axe throwing using computer-projected targets consisting of 10 different games.

Woodlands Axe also offers a bar, a meeting space located upstairs and an event venue for parties. Local organizations the venue has hosted include St. Luke’s Hospital and Lone Star College.

The details

At Woodlands Axe, participants can choose from 10 different games using a tablet screen available in each of its 11 lanes. The interactive games make axe throwing more challenging and engaging, manager and co-owner Jon Elkin said.

Games offered through its computer projected target include:

  • Tic-tac-toe
  • Bullseye board
  • Zombie Duck Hunter
  • Line-Up-4
  • Bottle axe
  • Battleship
  • Wheel of fortune
  • Blackjack
  • Cricket
  • Concentration

Additionally, Jon Elkin said the entertainment center offers seasonal games during holidays and two private lanes where attendees can upload a photo from their phone onto the targets.

The safety-designed targets and anti-bounce borders allow participants to safely throw axes as well as knives and ninja stars.

Additionally, axe throwing participants are required to sign a waiver prior to playing and are guided through a 15-minute practice and instruction session.

While axe throwing, attendees can enjoy food and drinks from the bar including beer, cider, wine, hot dogs, pretzels and pizzas.
