Machine Gun Kelly Charts His First Hit In The Country World
Machine Gun Kelly—now MGK, to avoid any potentially uncomfortable feelings around gun violence in the U.S. and his moniker—has been doling out new songs throughout 2024. He even recently delivered an EP, and the music he’s dropped this year shows his versatility as a musician. The rapper, rocker, and multi-genre singer-songwriter earns a new hit this week on a chart even he thought he’d probably never reach.
MGK’s “Sun To Me” debuts at No. 44 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart this frame. The tune marks his first placement on the list of the most-consumed country tracks in the U.S.
“Sun To Me” is a cover of Zach Bryan’s tune of the same name. The Grammy winner’s original take also hit the Hot Country Songs chart, where it peaked at No. 32. The tune performed even better on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs list, where it rose as high as No. 29.
MGK outpaces Bryan’s hit on the latter tally. His updated “Sun To Me” launches at No. 24 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, which ranks the most-consumed rock and alternative tunes in the nation.
The just-released “Sun To Me” is also new on two other lists. MGK’s latest offering debuts at No. 6 on the Rock Digital Song Sales chart and No. 17 on the Hot Rock Songs ranking. The superstar has previously landed on both tallies many times, especially after switching his focus from hip-hop to pop-punk.
“Sun To Me” appears to be a standalone release at the moment. It wasn’t featured on MGK’s latest EP, Genre: Sadboy, which he released in March. The project was a collaboration with Trippie Redd, who has also bounced between rock and rap in the past.
MGK lands the third-loftiest debut on the Hot Country Songs chart this week. He comes in behind new releases from stars like Kelsea Ballerini, Noah Khan, and Bailey Zimmerman. Coincidentally, he also lands just one spot ahead of Bryan, who collects a pair of hits on the tally.
