Meet the 2024 Wiregrass Sports Hall of Fame Class

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) – It’s a new year with a new class! Wednesday we learned the newest inductees to the Wiregrass Sports Hall of Fame.

Kasey Cooper: Dothan High softball graduate who helped led her team to a Class 6A state title in 2011. She went on to become a three-time All-American at Auburn University and member of the United States women’s national softball team. Cooper ended her college career as the SEC’s all-time leader in RBI.

Mike Henry: Dothan native who was a four sport athlete while at Northview High School. He was part of the 1985 state championship football team. Henry played baseball at Wallace and Florida A&M before kicking off a lengthy coaching career. Over 30 years, Coach Henry compiled a 540-293 record. He served at Eufaula, Headland, Carroll and Ashford. He also spent time as a baseball scout while serving on committees for the AHSAA. He is now an assistant coach and athletic director for Loachapoka High School.

Michael Smith: A Florida native who has made Alabama his home. He played football at the University of Alabama and was a member of the 1990 SEC championship team. Smith is serving in his second tenure with the Eufaula basketball program. He first coached the girls from 1991-2005 where he compiled a 344-76 record. He won three state title with the program in 1996, 1996 and 1997. He was named the Alabama Sports Writers Association Coach of the Year in 1994. He returned to Eufaula as boys head basketball coach where he has had multiple post-season appearances including a 28-5 record in 2017.

Jody Singleton: A proud Headland native, Jody has always been around the game of baseball. He played on the three youth Dixie All-Star baseball teams that made it to the state finals. At Headland High, he played on the football and baseball teams and was an All-WAC quarterback and safety while being a member of the 1986 state title team. Singleton played baseball for Wallace and Troy University. He was selected to the first Henry County Sports Hall of Fame class and will join his father Sherrill Singleton into the Wiregrass Sports Hall of Fame.

Terran Condrey: Condrey led the Eufaula High girls basketball team to the 2008 Class 5A state championship with a 32-2 record. She was named first team All-State, MVP and Alabama Sports Writers Association Class 5A Player of the Year. During her senior season, she averaged 22 points, 9 rebounds, 4 steals and 8 assists while shooting 56% from the floor. She went on to play for Baylor University being part of the 2012 national championship team.

Jamel Harris: A Wicksburg High graduate who went on to be a standout linebacker at the University of Arkansas. Harris was a star running back and linebacker with the Panthers rushing for 5,367 career yards and more than 50 touchdowns. He chipped in with 453 tackles. Harris was named first team All-State by the Alabama Sports Writers Association as a running back. At Arkansas, he accumulated more than 220 tackles as a three year starter. He later played in the Canadian Football League and was honored as a member of the Arkansas All 90s Decade Team. He currently serves as head coach and athletic director of the Geneva High Panthers.
