Anthony Mackie Takes the Shield in First ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Teaser

Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson is finally ready to take up the Captain America mantle in the new trailer for for Captain America: Brave New World, which is set to hit theaters Feb. 14, 2025. 

The new teaser opens with Sam meeting with President Thaddeus Ross (now played by Harrison Ford, following the death of William Hurt in 2022) to discuss the future of Captain America. Ross (who previously arrested Sam and the other Avengers in Civil War) now wants to make Captain America an official military position — a proposition Sam is wary of even before his friend, and retired super-soldier, Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly) becomes the main suspect after ostensibly trying to assassinate Ross. 

The teaser doesn’t offer much more in the way of plot, just a whole lot of big action and fight sequences, ominous descriptions of shifting power balances, and Ross menacingly telling Wilson, “You may be Captain America, but you’re not Steve Rogers.” There’s also a brief glimpse at the character played by Giancarlo Esposito — who just joined the film this year amidst a flurry of re-shoots — and the trailer ends with the big stand-off between Captain America and the Red Hulk, who makes his much-anticipated MCU debut in Brave New World.

The Brave New World cast also features Danny Ramirez returning as Joaquin Torres — now filling Sam’s old shoes as the Falcon — and Tim Blake Nelson will reprise his role as Samuel Sterns (a.k.a. The Leader) for the first time since the 2008 flick The Incredible Hulk. Newcomers to the cast include Shira Haas, Liv Tyler (returning to the MCU for the first time since that 2008 Hulk movie), and Xosha Roquemore.
