Six Flags announces merger with Cedar Fair

QUEENSBURY – Six Flags and Cedar Fair have merged, but the local Six Flags location in Queensbury does not expect the merger to mean changes locally.

Six Flags and Cedar Fair officially announced the merger of the two amusement and entertainment companies earlier this month, and while some may question what that will mean for local parks, Six Flags Great Escape in Queensbury is not expected to make any major changes in the immediate future.

“This is an exciting time for Six Flags Great Escape and our new company,” said Six Flags Great Escape Communications Manager Taylor Myers. “The park name and branding will remain the same, as will the 2024 season-pass program and any rewards/loyalty programs.”

The newly merged company now operates a total of 51 different properties which includes 27 amusement parks, 15 water parks and nine resorts. The combined company is now operating under the name “Six Flags Entertainment Corporation.”

The merger establishes a new and highly diversified footprint and robust operating model said Richard Zimmerman, the president and chief executive officer of Six Flags Entertainment Corporation.

“Today marks a significant milestone for our company, shareholders, guests and associates, unlocking higher value and greater opportunities to deliver engaging entertainment experiences,” Zimmerman said in a statement.

The parks in the combined company’s portfolio will all retain their legacy branding. No changes to any park names are currently being planned or contemplated, according to a press release from Six Flags Entertainment Corporation.

Selim Bassoul, executive chairman of the board of directors of Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, said the company is excited to unite the Cedar Fair and Six Flags teams, and to capitalize on growth opportunities and operational efficiencies of the newly merged company.

“We believe that by combining the best ideas and most successful entertainment practices of both Six Flags and Cedar Fair, the new Six Flags can deliver a superior level of joy and excitement that has yet to be experienced by regional park guests,” Bassoul said in a statement.

“As one company, we all remain focused on making people happy by delivering thrilling and memorable experiences,” Meyers said.
