EA Sports College Football 25: LSU Tigers team preview

The wait is almost over! EA Sports College Football 25 releases Friday, July 19. The 247Sports team  is proud to be the exclusive media group to get early access to playing the game. To make sure fans are ready for the launch of EA Sports College Football 25, we preview some of the top teams in the video game. Today, the 2020 national champions are in the spotlight with a new-look roster.

Geaux247’s Bryce Koon has you covered with a Q&A session to get you ready to play with LSU in College Football 25. Bryce pinpoints everything you need to know about the LSU Tigers’ roster from impact players to choosing the best offensive and defensive playbooks to highlighting key games on the 2024 college football schedule.

What impact players should fans be controlling for LSU when they pick up the controller?

“Let’s start with the defensive side of the football. It might be stating the obvious, but Harold Perkins (92 overall player rating) will be a fan-favorite for folks to control. His combination of speed, rushing ability, and coverage potentially makes Perkins a big cheat code for this game. Fans will have the ability to utilize Perkins in different spots to terrorize the opposition. Offensively, I’m going with two guys that will be underrated in the game. In past editions, speedy and elusive receivers have been another cheat code for players to use on offense. I think that, with LSU’s offense, both Zavion Thomas and Aaron Anderson could be fun to use. Put them in the slot and allow for the speed to take over, as defenses will be forced to look at other options. It’s only sometimes the highest overall players that make or break your team, but instead, the role players can emerge as impact players throughout a season.”

What are the best offensive and defensive playbooks to use with LSU?

“The kicker here is that there’s a unique playbook for each offense. If that’s the case, I’m rolling with what Joe Sloan draws up. The strength of this offense is the line, so we will run a balanced attack that could lean more toward the pass as Garrett Nussmeier grows more comfortable in his first full year of starting. Defensively, things get interesting. Honestly, I’d run a multiple fronts and then key in on whichever set allows for Harold Perkins to be the most impactful.”

When playing year one of dynasty mode with LSU, what game should fans circle on the schedule?

“The 2024 schedule is a fun one, but to me, there is one game that is going to be circled and then circled again on the schedule. Alabama, without Nick Saban, travels to Death Valley. Brian Kelly scored a massive upset win the first time these two teams met under his watch. Can he do it again, but this time against Kalen Deboer?”

What should your strategy be with LSU to put them in a position to win a national title within a few years?

“Recruiting is going to be a bit easier at LSU than in your underrated programs, but I’d say restock the defensive side of the football with some elite talent and contour the trend of bringing in the best of the best on the offensive side of the football. LSU will always be a program that is just a few pieces away, so keeping the cupboard full will be key.”

What is the first play you are calling to start the season?

“It’s a tough one here, but I’m going with four verticals. It was a cheese play in the old games, but with LSU’s talent at receiver and at quarterback, I want to kick things off with a bang.”

Bud Elliott of 247Sports, and also of the Cover3 podcast, had this to say about LSU in the game.

“Maybe the best offensive line in the game? A talented QB with a rocket arm and all day to throw? Receivers with big-time speed? And EA Sports sees major improvement in the defense for reasons that I do not exactly understand, but I’ll certainly not complain when I am using the Tigers.”

In 2013, Bud created the Blue Chip Ratio — a breakdown of programs that have done well enough on the recruiting trail to actually win the College Football Playoff. You will be able to see Bud’s ratio in the game.

EA College Football 25 will be available on July 19. For more team previews, check out 247Sports and CBSSports.com over the coming week.
