Johnson County celebrates World War Two Veterans

JOHNSON COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) – 81 years ago 17 young men from Johnson County answered the call to serve their country during World War Two, and Monday afternoon those men were honored with a memorial at the Paintsville Lake State Park.

All 17 men served together on the USS Hornet CV-12 in the Navy.

In attendance at the ceremony was the only living member of the group, 99-year-old Worth Goble.

More than 100 community members came to the park to show their support for the heroes in the area.

Family members of each of the 17 crew members spoke about their loved ones and the impact that they had.

Lt. Governor Jacqueline Coleman also spoke at the ceremony as well thanking the men for their service to our country.
