Grand Carnivale kicks off Saturday, July 20

Grand Carnivale, which runs July 20 through Aug. 5, brings “the sights, sounds and flavors of international cultures” to King’s Island, and spotlights the cultures of China, Germany, France, India, Italy and Spain, according to previous Cincinnati Enquirer coverage.

The event features live music, activities, crafts, authentic food as well as a daily Spectacle of Color Parade.

The Spectacle of Color Parade steps off each evening

At around 8:30 each night, the Spectacle of Color Parade steps off with “extravagantly decorated floats, mesmerizing street performers and pulsing rhythms,” according to Kings Island’s website.

At several points along the route, the Carnivale King and Queen will halt the procession for spectators to join in the singing and dancing.

Eat your fill at the Flavors of Carnivale International Food Festival

Foodies can get a taste of dishes from around the world at the Flavors of Carnivale International Food Festival. Kings Island’s website promises a full menu is coming soon.

Live entertainment, crafts and more

The Grand Carnivale also promises a variety of live music, dancing and entertainment. At some shows, visitors can join in.

There also will be craft booths for the young or young-at-heart to create their own Carnivale masks or noisemakers.

Also, Mardi’s QR Passport to Adventure invites visitors to scan QR codes in each country at the Grand Carnivale, and take photos with Alligator King Mardi P. Gras’ friends to learn about their countries, earn stamps and win a grand prize if the passport is completed.
