There’s a World Snake Day? Yes, and here’s where you can celebrate it

‘It’s an interesting event. No matter how you feel about snakes, it’s a good event to go to.’

World Snake Day is a popular event at the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science, and the museum will be hosting it again this week.

“People can see and touch live snakes and learn how to distinguish venomous snakes from non-venomous,” said Dee Gardner, museum marketing consultant. “They’ll also learn the valuable role Mississippi snakes play in our ecosystem.

“It’s an interesting event. No matter how you feel about snakes, it’s a good event to go to.”

The event is a celebration of World Snake Day, which is a recognized, international event. It’s an annual event aimed at education and appreciation of snakes. It’s also a day that falls during The Clarion-Ledger’s Snake Week when we’ll have daily articles on Mississippi’s snakes from July 15-19.

  • Girl Scouts of Greater Mississippi will earn the Museum of Natural Science Snake Day patch
  • Boy Scouts will fulfill multiple requirements for their Reptile and Amphibian Merit Badge
  • Food available for purchase at Spotter’s Snack Shack

  • When: Friday, July 19, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • Cost: Free with regular admission fee $8 adults $7 adults 60 and over $6 kids 3-18 Free kids under 3 and MMNS Foundation members
