Kesha Declares She’s ‘Coming to Change the World’ with New Music Following Dr. Luke Legal Battle

Kesha‘s joyride isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

The pop star, 37, dropped her first single as an independent artist, “Joyride,” earlier this month after settling her near-decade-long legal battle against producer Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald. In a new Forbes interview, she declared that she’s now looking to “change the world” — especially for any artists going through similar situations.

Offering advice to anyone seeking to regain ownership over their creative expression, the Grammy-nominated singer advised to “get a good lawyer” and explained she “will do everything in my power to try to change” how the legal system handles such instances.

“I started my own record company and I am coming to change the world, honey, so just hold on tight,” said Kesha, before encouraging fellow artists to “keep writing songs” through difficult moments.

“It’s really f—ed up that in this country, you can lose the rights to your voice but you will never lose the rights to your truth and the truth will set you free,” she continued. “I’m working really hard to change everything in my power in this world, so that never happens to anyone ever again.”

Kesha’s “Joyride” was released through her newly launched Kesha Records and marks her first new music since parting ways with RCA Records and Vector Management last year.

The end of her working relationship with both companies came about six months after she and Gottwald, 50, agreed to resolve his defamation lawsuit out of court ahead of its scheduled trial — almost 10 years after she first sued the Grammy-winning producer, accusing him of sexual, emotional and physical abuse.

Since its July 4 release, “Joyride” has garnered quite a bit of buzz. More than 19,000 videos have already been made on TikTok using the song, which recently debuted in the top 10 of the Billboard hot dance/electronic songs chart.

Elsewhere in the Forbes interview, Kesha said she feels “the most gratitude” and “happiness” for how “Joyride” has been embraced by listeners. “I feel free for the first time since I was 18 years old and I so appreciate every single person that has streamed it, and I love the videos that are being made,” she expressed.

“I’ve spent almost 10 years in litigation and millions of dollars in legal fees,” added Kesha. “This joy has been hard-fought for me, so I love that people are ready to ‘Joyride’ with me.”
