Darby Allin Details Previous Jobs That Were Worse Than Getting Kicked With Thumbtack Shoes
Darby Allin has looked back at the jobs he worked before becoming a professional wrestler and admitted that the mental pain of the jobs was much worse than anything he was experienced in the ring.
Wrestling fans are now very aware of Allin’s work in AEW as the former TNT Champion has garnered a reputation for his high-risk style and stunts that often look more painful to Allin than to his opponents. From smashing through panes of glass to being slammed onto the jagged edges of steel stairs, many question the long-term health implications of Allin when all will be said and done for the daredevil.
Allin’s most recent match saw the former Tag Team Champion compete in the Anarchy in the Arena battle with The Elite at Double or Nothing. The closing moments of the match saw Allin receive multiple superkicks from The Young Bucks who were wearing shoes lined with thumbtacks. According to Allin, this pain is nothing compared to his previous job.
Speaking on Friday Night Fights, Allin looked back on some of his past employment and would take the superkicks over being a dishwasher again:
“Honestly, growing up, I was a dishwasher. I worked at the 99-cent store. I’ll tell you right now, I’d rather get kicked in the face with thumbtack-superglued shoes than ever work as a dishwasher again. I don’t take any of it for granted. I’d rather go through the physical pain than the mental pain any day.”
Continuing, Allin stated that while he did not have a single standout moment while in AEW, he has been proud to be a part of the past 250 episodes:
“Everything has been such a trip. It’s so hard to say off the top of my head, but just the fact that I was with the company from the ground level, it’s so awesome to see the first episode of Dynamite and then now we’re at 250, it’s just cool to be along for the whole ride and experience everything. It’s just awesome, and the cool thing about it all is I get to do it on my terms, and everything you see out there is my ideas, and they just tell me, ‘Alright, Darby. Do whatever you want to do.’ It’s really cool that we have that platform.”
Darby Allin Cleared To Compete
Making a surprise appearance on the July 10th episode of Dynamite, the former TNT Champion attacked Brandon Cutler backstage before promising that he would be targeting The Elite. During the same interview, Darby Allin confirmed that he had been cleared to compete.
On the July 17th episode of Dynamite, Allin was revealed to be the final member of Team AEW in the upcoming Blood and Guts match.
