Louisiana is a Top 5 gambling state, says new ranking. See where other states fell

One might think that Louisiana is a gambling friendly state, and one would be right. Data from the American Gaming Association compiled by the casino news site Casino Reports says that the state is, but even though the south is known for good manners and always inquiring about “your Mama and them,” it is not as friendly as other, northern climes.

It is likely not a surprise that Nevada, the perennial front runner, comes in far and away number 1, scoring a 91.76 out of 100. We call that even odds, but the stats that got the state into the top slot are pretty amazing, staggering, almost.

Nevada has enough gaming machines to have the equivalent of one for every 15 Nevada residents; a total of 148,644 machines. The state also has the equivalent of 96.18 locations in which to gamble per 100,000 residents, 2,282 in all.

The next few states may surprise you. South Dakota comes in second with a rating of 83.67, with 1,404 gaming locations and 16,275 machines. Because of their small population, the state had the most gaming locations per 100,000 residents at 215.6.

Next came Montana which boasts both the fictional TV series “Yellowstone” and the third ranking on the gaming top chart at 82.04 out of 100. Go to one of the 1,456 gaming locations in the state and play on one of the 18,031 machines and while there, say ‘howdy’ to anyone who looks like a Dutton.

West Virginia with 1,164 places to play and 12,572 machines logs in at #4 with an 80.54 ranking, and finally, what we have been waiting for…

Louisiana is fifth at 78.78 out of 100. If you don’t demand a recount, the number of gaming machines stand at 34,259 and there are 1,1419 gaming locations, which yes, are a whole lot of video poker truck stops.

The next five states are Illinois, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma and Iowa. Texas is reported to have two gaming locations and lands at the bottom of the list with a ranking of 6.61.
