There are two elite starting pitchers squaring off in this one, so that always gets my attention. And given the offensive struggles both squads dealt with heading into the All-Star break, it should keep scoring to a minimum early on tonight.

Corbin Burnes for Baltimore just saw and dominated the Rangers a few weeks ago, holding them to a single run over 7 innings. With the struggles Texas has against righties like Burnes, I’m expecting him to hold them down again.

But the biggest key just might be Nathan Eovaldi and his dominance at home this season. The Ranger righty owns a 1.99 ERA and .166 opponent on-base average in home games, and has never allowed more than 2 runs in an outing. He and Burnes should combine to make this an early pitcher’s duel.

This total feels built on the fact that Miami had two straight Summer League games scoring over 100 points. But then they lost Jaime Jaquez from the team and their scoring plummeted the following game, which went well under the total.

Now they face a Toronto team that has defended well this week, allowing just 78.7 PPG and never getting close to this total in their 3 games. This game also has implications for who makes the championship or consolation bracket, so expect defense to be the bigger story here.
